Job Description:
Assistant Engineer - Street Lighting
*Annual Salary: Up to £39,513
*Location: Manchester
*Job Type: Full-time
Join the Highways Service team in Manchester as an Assistant Engineer specialising in Street Lighting. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead a range of technical projects and initiatives, ensuring high-quality service delivery in line with organisational objectives and statutory requirements. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the city’s infrastructure, particularly focusing on street lighting, contributing to the Greater Manchester Transport Strategy 2040.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Lead the delivery of technical projects and work packages related to street lighting, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and council objectives.
*Provide specialist technical consultancy to develop, design, and implement customer-focused solutions.
*Manage the Street Lighting PFI contract, including performance reporting and quality checks.
*Assess asset management and central management systems, and review proposals for new installations or schemes.
*Liaise with colleagues and developers regarding new sites and the impact on existing apparatus.
*Support neighbourhood teams with festive lighting works and maintenance of non-PFI related apparatus.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*HNC/HND in Engineering or equivalent qualification.
*Working towards or holding Affiliate/Associate membership of the Institute of Lighting Professionals.
*Strong analytical skills with the ability to assimilate complex information and concepts.
*Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to set realistic timelines and manage resources effectively.
*Proven problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
*Experience in financial management and the ability to work confidently with financial data.
*Creative and commercial skills to identify viable opportunities and secure value for money in service delivery.
