Job Description:
Teaching Assistant
*Location: New Malden
*Position: Teaching Assistant
*Contract Type: Temp to Perm
*Start date: January
Veritas Education are working with a lovely school based in the heart of New Malden that are looking to hire a strong teaching assistant to join their vibrant staff community in the new year with the view to go permanent. The school is a thriving church of england primary school, with a great history and a bright future, centred around commitment to each child’s high and broad achievement and as a teaching assistant your expectation will be to adopt the schools ethos as the heartbeat of the school. All teaching assistants will work across year groups and be tasked with running interventions from early years to key stage 2, so must be comfortable teaching numeracy and literacy. Furthermore, all teaching assistants work in strong partnership with the community to ensure high standards are achieved with a varied and exciting curriculum.
The school is located within walking distance from a well connected overground station and offers parking to all teaching assistants.
Teaching Assistant support for Pupils:
*Support pupils to make good academic progress, under the direction of the teacher and Inclusion leader
*Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence
*Implement group or 1:1 interventions to support pupils who have emotional or social barriers to learning
*Establish constructive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
*Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
Teaching Assistant Support for Teachers:
*Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupils’ work
*Use strategies, under the direction of the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals
*Discuss with the teacher how learning activities are to be organised and what their own support role will be
Qualifications needs as a Teaching Assistant:
Essential:
*Good literacy skills - GCSE Grade C or above in English Language; Level 2 English or above; or equivalent
*Good numeracy skills- GCSE Grade C or above in Maths; Level 2 Maths or above; or equivalent
Desirable for a teaching assistant:
*An honours degree (preferably Upper Second) or equivalent
