Senior Planning Officer *Hourly Rate: Up to £43 per hour via umbrella
*Location: Doncaster (Hybrid working)
*Job Type: Full-time
We are seeking a Senior Planning Officer to join our Regeneration & Environment Directorate. This role involves managing a diverse caseload of planning applications, providing specialist planning advice, and contributing to policy development. The successful candidate will handle projects ranging from residential schemes to small-scale commercial developments and will be instrumental in shaping the planning landscape of our borough.
Day-to-day of the role: *Manage a caseload of non-major and other planning applications, ensuring all are determined in accordance with the Council’s approved scheme of delegation.
*Provide clear and effective advice on Development Management and Planning Policy to support borough, corporate, and service priorities.
*Develop and implement statutory and non-statutory policies and strategies, including preparation and review of development plans and Neighbourhood Plans.
*Prepare and advise on CIL/s106 matters, focusing on policy and implementation.
*Engage in pre-application discussions and negotiations with developers to refine proposals and ensure compliance with relevant policies.
*Serve as the Council’s expert witness in planning/enforcement appeals and examinations in public.
*Support the planning enforcement process and provide guidance on related issues.
*Represent and support Principal Planning Officers and undertake additional duties as required to support the team’s objectives.
Required Skills & Qualifications: *Planning qualification to degree level (or equivalent) with a willingness to work towards full membership of the RTPI.
*Demonstrable Local Authority experience in Policy Planning, particularly in producing policy documents for Local Plans.
*Experience handling non-major planning applications and preparing/presenting evidence at appeals or Local Plan examinations.
*Strong ability to write and present clear reports and evidence on complex planning matters.
*Proven track record of meeting deadlines and delivering excellent customer service within a busy Development Management setting.
