Job Description:
The Finance Manager will oversee all day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency while managing a small transactional finance team. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality financial reporting, maintaining robust controls, and supporting decision-making through financial insights.
What you’ll do:
Team Management:
*Lead and manage a small team responsible for transactional finance processes, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
*Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to team members.
*Monitor and allocate workloads to ensure deadlines are consistently met.
Financial Reporting:
*Prepare monthly management accounts, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
*Conduct variance analysis with clear commentary and recommendations for stakeholders.
*Assist in the preparation of statutory accounts and support year-end audits.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
*Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic re-forecasting.
*Provide detailed analysis to support budgeting decisions and ensure adherence to budget targets.
Transactional Processes:
*Oversee and optimise the accuracy of transactional processes, such as supplier payments, customer invoicing, and bank reconciliations.
*Monitor and improve credit control processes, ensuring timely collection of outstanding debts.
Cash Flow Management:
*Maintain oversight of cash flow, ensuring the organisation has sufficient working capital.
*Implement strategies to optimise cash management and working capital cycles.
Compliance and Controls:
*Ensure financial operations comply with relevant regulations, including VAT, PAYE, and corporate tax.
*Develop and enforce robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and maintain accuracy.
*Act as the key contact for external auditors and regulatory bodies.
Business Partnering:
*Collaborate with non-finance teams to provide financial insights and guidance to support strategic decisions.
*Communicate financial results to senior management in a clear and actionable way.
Process Improvement:
*Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy within the finance function.
*Drive automation initiatives where applicable, streamlining financial operations.
What you’ll need:
*Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
*Strong understanding of accounting standards (e.g., UK GAAP, IFRS).
*Proficiency in financial software (e.g., Sage, Xero, or SAP) and advanced Excel capabilities.
*Proven experience in leading and developing a team within a finance function.
*Ability to delegate effectively and manage competing priorities.
*Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
*Analytical mindset and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
*Previous experience in a Senior Management Accountant / Finance Manager role, ideally with oversight of transactional finance.
*Demonstrated success in improving processes and driving operational efficiency.
