Job Title: Closing Accountant

Rate: £650 per day
Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Closing Accountant to join the finance team within a London Borough for an initial 6-month contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the year-end close process, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
*Lead the preparation of year-end financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
*Review and reconcile complex financial transactions and accounts.
*Ensure timely and accurate closure of financial records in line with statutory deadlines.
*Work closely with senior management to resolve any financial discrepancies.
*Liaise with auditors and provide necessary support during the audit process.
*Ensure compliance with local government accounting standards and legislation.
*Contribute to improving financial processes and controls.
Essential Skills & Experience:
*Extensive experience in closing accounts within the public sector
*Strong knowledge of UK public sector accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, CIPFA).
*Experience of financial reporting, reconciliations, and audit preparation.
Desirable:
*Previous experience working within a London Borough or local government setting.
